The Modern Minimalist Fireplace

Modern minimalist fireplace features vertical ceramic tile surround and brushed brass decorative band. Striking brass light fixture hangs overhead, complimenting the verticality of the design. The electric fireplace itself delivers warm ambience without the need for venting. This modern fireplace is a masterclass in linear design, where texture, metal, and lighting converge in perfect harmony to create a clean yet inviting gathering space.

Anchoring the space is a striking vertical ceramic tile fireplace surround, its rhythmic ribbed surface creating movement and architectural presence. A custom brushed brass metal band with a Japanese brown patina moves horizontally through the composition, visually grounding the design.

“This fireplace leans minimalist with simple textured fluting and a soft color, but the metal banding creates a moment of pause and elegance,” Normandy Designer Abby Osborn says. “This design was all about balance, with subtle color and texture meeting strong geometry.”

Above, a complementary brass overhead light fixture descends like sleek jewelry, echoing the metallic tones of the banding and wall sconces. The layered lighting strategy enhances the fireplace as both a functional heat source and a dramatic focal point.

The electric fireplace itself delivers clean-lined ambiance without the need for venting, making it an ideal solution for modern interiors. “We wanted the flame to feel like a living art piece,” Abby notes. “Electric allowed us the freedom to focus purely on form, proportion, and atmosphere.”

Flanked by plush lounge seating and grounded by a sculptural round coffee table, the fireplace becomes the natural heart of the room. Every detail of the intimate gathering space, from the tailored brass arms of the chairs to the soft glow reflected in the tile’s vertical grooves, reinforces the intentional simplicity of the design.

“This space proves that linear design doesn’t have to feel cold, when layered with the right tones and materials,” Abby says. “This space is moody and modern and complements the nearby beverage center with its lighter aesthetic. It’s a modern sanctuary defined by rhythm and refined craftsmanship.”

The Luxury Powder Room

The luxury powder room features a console sink with a striking black marble top, a black-and-white marble mosaic floor, a sink wall with integrated mirror clad in white marble tile, and polished nickel hardware.Simple, traditional and elegant. This black, white and gray powder room design is elevated with marble and texture throughout to create a classic look that feels luxurious and timeless.

“It’s a simple palette with various patterns and shapes that weave together a perfectly traditional space,” Normandy Designer Laura Barber says. “The restrained color story allows the marble to shine, and the interplay of mosaics, bevels, and stone patterns creates depth without overwhelming the small footprint.”

At the center of the design is a console sink with a striking black marble top. The floor features a black-and-white marble mosaic edged with a marble baseboard that adds to the sophisticated tone. The sink wall is clad in white marble tile and features an integrated mirror with beveled edge. “The marble mirror frame is modest in size in order to match the small space,” Laura says. “The beveled accents are a subtle defining feature that gives the design a beautifully tailored finish.” Simple wallpaper adds another layer of light texture.

Polished nickel hardware provides the final layer of refinement. It offers a sleek counterpoint as the finish on the faucet with classic cross handles, all the way to the exposed plumbing. “The console’s polished nickel legs, with subtle hexagonal features, inspired the selection of the coordinating light fixtures,” Laura explains. “Polished nickel adds that tailored shine and works beautifully with marble’s natural softness.”

While marble is a delicate material that requires mindful care, Laura notes, “Surface damage from certain personal care products is less likely in a powder room which experiences less daily wear than a full bath.” For this reason, a powder room is an ideal space to go big with high-end materials like marble, that require more attention.

“This powder room is a perfectly balanced expression of traditional design,” Laura says. “It’s an understated approach to luxury that is still rich with interest and depth.”
