The number one request is a kitchen design that will withstand the test of time. So itโ€™s no surprise that the theme projected for 2018 kitchen remodeling is timeless without being tired. Spaces will feature plenty of classic design decisions, but with an edge. Think new tile patterns, mixing up finishes and bolder choices for hardware. So, are you ready for the specifics? According to our Normandy Design Team, hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll be seeing a lot of this year.

Decorated Tile โ€“ Geometric, floral or arabesque โ€“no pattern is off limits. These highly decorated tiles work really well above the range or near a beverage center. They add personality and interest to your space. In addition to an abundanceย ofย  patterns, there are also plenty of tile options, including ceramic, glass and cement.

Tin Ceilings โ€“ Punch up your ceiling with some tin tiles. There are plenty of elaborate patterns and finishes to match the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. This design idea looks great over an island or eating area. Pair with a unique light fixture for even more of a statement.

Mixed Finishes โ€“ Mixing up island and perimeter cabinetry finishes has been happening for some time now. But now, weโ€™re taking it one step further and varying base and wall colors and materials too. With so many combinations to choose from, this is a design decision that works well in modern, eclectic and traditional spaces.

Gold & Rose Gold Hardware โ€“ Gold and rose gold pulls and knobs are having their time to shine. This is a metal that will give your kitchen a stylish and luxurious appeal. When opting for white or gray cabinetry, adding gold hardware is a great way to add warmth.

Herringbone Patterns โ€“ Herringbone is stylish and classic. There are plenty of ways to have some fun with this pattern, including tile size and color. It works well as a backsplash, flooring or even as a ceiling detail.

Toe Kicks & Fancy Feet โ€“ New twists on toe kicks include stainless steel or arched detailing. These can be a nice way to further enhance cabinetry feet. When it comes to cabinetry feet, trends are moving away from traditional bun feet and options for a sleek, square design instead.

Textured Tile โ€“ Textured tile adds style and interest in a subtle way. Some tile options are three-dimensional, while others have a color and finish combination that gives the appearance of fabric, like corduroy or linen.

Chalk Boards โ€“ Instead of an unsightly white board, kitchens are now featuring chalk message boards. These can be painted on the wall, or framed.ย  Itโ€™s a cute way to jot down family updates or grocery lists.

We hope these ideas have sparked interest and excitement to remodel your kitchen. Why Youโ€™ll Love Having a Second Fridge

You may be wondering if adding a second refrigerator to your kitchen design is a soon-to-be-favorite addition, or if it’s a little too over-the-top. But if you ask people who’ve added a second refrigerator to their newly remodeled kitchen, you’ll find a healthy fan base for a dedicated refrigerator for drinks.

A second under-counter refrigerator can benefit just about anybody. Even if you donโ€™t entertain, itโ€™s nice to take some pressure off your main fridge. You can take all of your drinks out, and open up prime real-estate in your main refrigerator for food.

Families with young children tend to also enjoy the benefits of an under counter refrigerators. The kids get easy access to bottled water or juice boxes at a lower height, and it keeps them from draining the cold air of the main fridge while they make their selections.

If you do entertain, a secondary beverage fridge works well at the end of an island or near the edge of the kitchen. This lets your guests serve themselves at a party without getting in the way of your meal prep.

When it comes to the look of your second fridge, you can opt for a glass front with a stainless steel frame, or you can add a custom door panel so it blends in and looks like a piece of furniture.

One thing to keep in mind is that a glass front will make it clear that it is a refrigerator, which makes it easier for guests to find a drink and help themselves. And if entertaining is really your thing, you can also take things up a notch by creating a full beverage center.

A beverage centerย can be a fantastic addition to your kitchen design. You can add wine racks to the under counter fridge, and glass cabinetry can store stemware and barware.ย  Add a coffee maker and youโ€™ve got before and after dinner drinks covered.

What else can you stock your beverage center with? A bar sink nearby means unfinished drinks can be easily dumped, and guests can easily access a glass of water. Ice makers are also helpful for entertaining. Choosing one with a built in pump will clear out water lines and ice periodically.

Secondary refrigerators and beverage centers are just a few of the ways you can customize your new kitchen just the way you like.
