Doorless Shower Designs

Doorless white shower with blue stripeDoorless showers are chic and great for creating a spacious more open feel, but there are a few things to keep in mind if youโ€™re set on having one. The first is that the shower either has to have a curb, or be pitched to have the water drain properly.ย  If you donโ€™t want a curb and you are trying to retrofit the shower into an existing bathroom, itโ€™s going to involve breaking joists to pitch the floor.

Draftiness can be reduced with the installation of heat lamps, towel warmers and heated flooring. Doorless showers also require more floor space than a standard tub or shower stall and placement needs to be strategic in order to keep the rest of the bathroom dry.

Oftentimes, homeowners will opt for a glass frame wall to provide the feeling of openness and reap the benefits of having the glass to catch the water and keep the heat in.ย  For those still willing to install one of these walk-in wonders, youโ€™ll love the benefits.ย  In addition to the space looking larger and creating a very open, spa-like experience for your bathroom, youโ€™ll also have the added bonus of no door to scrub.

Benefits of the Design Build Process

We often get asked what the difference is between architects, construction companies and design build firms?ย  So we thought weโ€™d take a minute to share what the difference is and what you can expect from a design build firm.

โ€œI would say the biggest difference between a design build firm and traditional remodeling methods is, in a word, accuracy,โ€ says Normandy Designer John Long.ย  โ€œA design build firm that is structured the way that Normandy is can give the homeowner prompt and accurate feedback in regards to design, construction and budget.โ€

โ€œMany think itโ€™s more economical to go to an architect to have the design created, and then find a home construction company.ย  The problem that some run into with that option is that itโ€™s difficult for a firm that solely designs to factor in the current costs of materials and labor and to price out different options,โ€ noted John.ย  โ€œThen, when itโ€™s time to take the plans to a remodeler, the costs to build the design can exceed the ownerโ€™s budget making the cost and time of the designs was a waste of money and they have to start over.โ€

โ€œOne of my favorite benefits of the Normandy process, which is also huge benefit for the homeowners, is that I have an entire team of other designers, architects and project supervisors to discuss ideas, problems and solutions with,โ€ commented John.ย  โ€œNormandy has such an efficient internal system set up, with a team approach that encourages creativity.ย  Thereโ€™s a great management team that makes the satisfaction of the both the customer and staff their top priority.โ€
