Spa-like Bathroom Ideas

The first step to attaining your spa-like bathroom is to determine what feels “spa-like” to you, including colors and layouts.  For these homeowners, Carrara marble was a must for their new bathroom because of the simple, soothing colors.  “They knew they wanted it not only for bathroom floor tile, but also on the walls,” says Normandy Designer Chris Ebert.  “To keep the space interesting while incorporating that goal, we used different sizes and shapes of the Carrara marble tile throughout the bathroom.  Another element in their vision of a spa-like bathroom remodel was a freestanding bathtub, so we put a modern twist on a classic French freestanding tub by placing it along an angled wall set between two sinks.  This tub also served as the room’s focal point.”

“Lighting plays a big role in any spa-like bathroom because you’re never going to find plain task lighting at a spa; you need ambient lighting to really make the spa aesthetic work,” commented Chris.  “For this bathroom we went with simple, elegant sconces to complement the console sinks and the rest of the Parisian inspired bathroom.  There’s also a beautiful chandelier that adds some glam to the space.”

“Another vital element in any bathroom remodel, regardless of the style, is attractive storage. In this case, we incorporated recessed medicine cabinets lined with the Carrara marble above each console sink. However, that really wasn’t enough for this master bathroom, so we brought in a white cabinetry tower that contributed to the light, open concept of the rest of the space.”

Butler Pantry Ideas

butler pantry ideas created by Normandy Designer Vince Weber Butler pantries are often used for storing your nicer dining, table and silverware, rather than food as a regular pantry stores.  Years ago, European butlers would sleep in the pantry to essentially guard the homeowner’s silver, hence the name “butler’s pantry”.  Nowadays, the butler’s pantry will often have a countertop to prepare drinks and arrange appetizers before bringing them out to guests.  It’s a great 1008-1_ 1061space for a beverage cooler and storing wine, as well. Typically, your butler’s pantry will be located in a transition room, such as between the kitchen and the dining room for quick access and easy disposal of trays and glasses when your guests have finished with them.  They usually match whatever style your kitchen is, so if you have a traditional kitchen, your butler pantry should also be traditional.
