Everything to Know About Heated Toilet Seats

Kohler heated toilet seatYes, heated toilet seats are a thing! It’s easy to overlook an everyday amenity, but “heated toilet seats are the perfect way to incorporate just a touch of luxury into your bathroom experience,” says Normandy Designer Becca Ruggiero. A heated toilet seat is just as its name implies – a toilet seat with an integrated heating element.

“Those of us who live in the Midwest are especially drawn to heated toilets seats as the cold winter snows on,” Becca states. “Whether your bathroom’s always chilly or you’re looking for ways to get through those I-can’t-leave-my-bed mornings, heated toilet seats are an inexpensive way to incorporate an added heating component within your bathroom.”

Light green walls, colorful artwork above the toilet, and stainless steel grab bars on either side.“Heated toilet seats are easy to install as they simply plug in to a GFCI power source,” added Becca. “They also come programmed with an adjustable heat setting, perfect for year round comfort.”

Heated toilet seats range in price from a few hundred dollars for standard models, to over a thousand for more elaborate features. “They’re available with a built in night light, or even a fragrance option,” says Becca. Smart phone compatibility is another option where users can simply download an app to schedule when they would like their heated toilet seat to reach their desired temperature.

A Basement Remodel Not Just for the Kids

These homeowners in Winnetka were tired of doing their laundry in a Basement family entertainment area. Built in shelving, open shelving, storage dark, small space and wanted to stop using their basement as a storage unit. They wanted to create a usable, multi-function lower level with an entertainment space for the family, dedicated laundry room, powder room and a separate area for their two young kids. In order to accomplish that, they enlisted the help of Normandy Designer Karen Chanan.

Lower level laundry room, storage cabinets, laundry sorting, sink, upper cabinetsTo give them what they were looking for, many major changes needed to happen. The mechanicals needed to be moved to the back corner of the basement and the boiler pipes needed to be re-routed to make head room for the ceiling. The laundry room needed to be relocated so an existing wall could come down and open up the space.

“The homeowners felt strongly that their lower level be an extension of their upstairs and not resemble a typical ‘kid’s basement’,” said Karen.

The new main space is light and bright and boasts a built-in entertainment center Basement wet bar, beverage fridge, faucet, sink open glass shelving, storage cabinet that is great for cozy family movie nights. The mini wet bar fits perfectly under the stairs and is great for entertaining.

The new dedicated laundry room with ample storage and work space makes the chore of doing laundry not so bad. The homeowners had fun designing the colorful kid’s nook that will be great for playtime or sleep overs.
