“We did an addition and extensive remodeling of existing space. Normandy understands that remodeling your home can be a very emotional experience. As such, having confidence that things are progressing as you would expect and that the odd issue that comes up is in good hands is essential (and they give you confidence in both – on schedule and on budget and that you are in good hands). My husband and I are both recovering Type A’s so to be able to just sit back and let Normandy be in charge was a bit counter intuitive for us. Architect Vince Weber did an incredible job of listening to what our angst points were with our current layout, helped us understand design and cost trade-offs, knew what would be correct for the period/style of our house (which was important to us), was very patient as we considered lots of alternatives, and provided good counsel when we would occasionally be in really crazy idea territory (making sure to help preserve our long term investment). After working so well with Vince, we went through a bit of withdrawal when we moved to construction and were worried we could never have as good of a relationship on that side. Our Construction Superintendent Al Lovas was everything we could have hoped for and more. He doesn’t accept anything less than perfection from the team, knows how to get things done, appreciates that you have placed your confidence in him, knows that you are spending a lot of money and wants you to get good value for it, is incredibly responsive (answered texts I would send at midnight!) and is simply one of the nicest people we have ever met. And somehow Al and Vince manage to stay in touch constantly. We never spoke to one when the other wasn’t up to speed. They are a great team and we are so happy we picked Normandy. I was a bit nervous about picking a design/build firm vs. architect and bid, but after having been through the process now – SO glad we did. There were plenty of places in the project where an architect and contractor might have been pointing fingers at one another – Normandy just takes care of it.”

“I initially met Vince Weber on a tour of Kitchens in Winnetka and admired his handiwork. I took his card and called him to come look at our kitchen. We had a pretty clear idea of what we wanted to do but he was so easy to work with and really helped us to refine our vision. We decided to use Normandy to remodel our kitchen. The remodel involved taking everything down to the studs and taking out part of a wall. Before demolition started, Vince gave us a schedule of what would be done each week and when our payments were due and Normandy stuck to that schedule. There were no surprises or extra fees. There were people here working every day. I never had to call and say, “what about this”….they really thought of everything. Al Lovas was our GC and was always available for questions and always got right back to me when I called or texted.

We were thrilled with the way our kitchen turned out! So thrilled in fact that we used Normandy again to take off our old front porch and replace it with a half open-porch and half mudroom configuration. We constantly have neighbors stop by to comment on how much better the house looks and how they love what we have done.

“We walked into Normandy’s Showroom in Hinsdale not knowing ANYTHING about remodeling. So we asked to speak with someone about completely gutting and re-designing our kitchen. We DEFINITELY had the luck of the Irish that day because we randomly got Gary Cerek. We immediately hit it off with Gary as he patiently explained the design process. Once we decided to go with Normandy, Gary walked us through every step of the way. His experience shone through, his guidance was always right on and the millions upon millions of little details that would otherwise completely overwhelm you were presented in a logical, orderly fashion so that we felt very protected and were led through every decision, milestone and design element by Gary and his design assistant, Ashley Stone. They helped with design, color, texture, lighting, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures and appliance selection. The best though was walking through a canyon of granite and natural stone selections. “We have used Normandy Remodeling for four projects since 2007, and we highly recommend them. We remodeled our kitchen (2007), installed some hardwood flooring (2011), added a new porch to the front of our house (2013), and remodeled our master bedroom and bathroom (2015).

Jennifer Runner was our designer for the front porch in 2013. She came up with some designs that accommodated all our wishes and even came up with some things we didn’t think of but exceeded our expectations. “We are extremely pleased with our kitchen remodel. We chose Normandy because they have a reputation for quality and a five-year guarantee—so they are motivated to do things right. Our designer, Stephanie Bryant, did an amazing job guiding us through the process, listening to our ideas and improving on them, bringing her deep knowledge and experience to the project. In choosing products, she was really helpful in offerings pros and cons for our choices. She went above and beyond, in terms of taking the time to make sure we were really happy with the design at every step. Our work was extensive, removing a structural wall, adding steel beams, moving plumbing, etc. Bruce Pettingill, our construction superintendent, was fantastic. He seems to know everything about construction, and is a great problem-solver, always explaining our options, being attentive to our concerns and extremely responsive. For example: one morning we awoke to find a fallen ceiling in a room adjacent to our kitchen (not part of the project but that shared a plumbing wall). We called Bruce at 7 a.m. and he was at our house within the hour, and the plumber came shortly after. It turned to be unrelated to the kitchen remodel, but Bruce diagnosed the problem (upstairs bath issue) and explained our options for repairing it, etc. Normandy repaired the drywall and cleaned up the mess at a very fair price. Overall, we felt that the change orders we did (a handful of necessary changes) were reasonably priced. The workers Normandy uses are polite, friendly, respectful and extremely careful with construction mess, etc. In fact, Bruce actually apologized to me when a tradesman was cranky and complaining about some minor issue. I’ve never run into a situation like that with a remodeling project! Remodeling is stressful and messy by its nature (and we lived in the house while the work was being done) but this was about as smooth a process as one could wish for. And their clean-up crew did an amazing job as well. Another example: we had to have a concrete post hole drilled into our finished basement. They covered everything, pulled back the carpet, built a plastic tent and drilled a hole, which was truly a concrete dust nightmare. But somehow, when construction was complete, they cleaned and put everything back in place. Bruce even found us a guy who could refit the carpet around our new post (and was less expensive than our carpet store). We waited six months after project completion to write this review, just to make sure that the follow-up on issues is as advertised. We’ve had a few very minor, non-time-sensitive issues (a sticking screen door, a cracked outlet cover, etc.) which Bruce has taken care of, and we are confident that if anything pressing came up, he or someone from the company would be here within a reasonable amount of time. Re: cost, Normandy is not the cheapest contractor out there, but in this case, you really get what you pay for. Things are done right the first time. The quality workmanship, quality products, attention to detail, Stephanie and Bruce’s commitment to making us happy and the five-year guarantee made it worth it for us.”
