Laying the Groundwork for a Successful Remodeling Project

Home remodels are an exciting time; everyone wants the best possible experience.ย  But many homeowners have come to expect the nightmare project that theyโ€™ve heard their friends and neighbors talk about. Thereโ€™s no reason to believe you canโ€™t have a great remodel, especially if you start out your project on the right foot. Here are some things you can do to increase the chances that youโ€™ll enjoy your remodeling experience.

Make sure your house is remodel โ€“ ready. Some prep work prior to starting a project will put your mind at ease. Move your fragile and precious items that you donโ€™t want broken or dusty out of the work area and into a safe zone. If possible, move out the big stuff like sofas and rugs and seal them in plastic sheeting.

โ€œBe prepared for a few hiccups and hurdles along the way, itโ€™s the nature of remodeling,โ€ said Normandyโ€™s Director of Design Troy Pavelka. โ€œBut just trust that it will all work out.โ€

For their own safety, keep your pets and kids out of the construction zone before, during and after hours. During the warmer months, offering a glass of water to the tradespeople can go a long way, making your project a favorite house to work at.

By all means keep the lines of communication open throughout the process. Ask your superintendent or designer questions or express your concerns, especially if you are hoping a tradesperson can tackle an extra project, they can help facilitate that. Or if you donโ€™t understand something, just ask.

โ€œGetting started on a major home remodel can feel overwhelming but it doesnโ€™t have to be,โ€ said Troy. โ€œYour goal is our goal – a beautiful home renovation completed on-time and on-budget.โ€
