2017 Remodeling Excellence Award

Transitional Kitchen with Hint of Gold

Gold finishes are growing in popularity, and when you look at this Western Springs kitchen remodel it’s easy to see why. Normandy Designer Chelsi Smith added a touch of gold to give this space a stylish and luxurious vibe. In addition to looking good, this kitchen also functions like a dream. Here’s how this timeless, transitional transformation came to be.

“The home was older, so it was important to keep the design simple and close to its roots,” said Chelsi. “We also needed to relocate appliances to open up the space.”

Going into detail, this new space includes white cabinetry, an off-white, large format subway tile, quartz countertops, walnut accents and hints of brushed champagne gold, including the hardware and light fixtures. Removing a narrow island, adding a peninsula and relocating appliances opened up the space while maintaining storage and counter space.

“Removing the island and adding a peninsula maintained counter space and allowed for more storage and seating in the kitchen. It also created an open central area for the growing family,” noted Chelsi.

The main focal point in the space is the range wall, which has an elegant backsplash, walnut accent end panels and a custom designed walnut hood. The fun doesn’t stop there… double-sided glass cabinets provide a transition into the dining room.

Judges from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) competition were impressed by this transformation, awarding it a Remodeling Excellence Award.
