We recently highlighted this amazing Evanston kitchen remodel by Normandy Designer Ashley Noethe, for its innovative approach to opening up a tight space, downsizing a full bath off the kitchen, and creating a bright and updated area fit for a young family. The family weren’t the only ones impressed by this remarkable before and after.
The judges at the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Greater Chicagoland Chapter were just as amazed with this kitchen remodel. We’re proud to announce that this project earned a 2023 Contractor of the Year (CotY) award. This competition considers projects across the Chicagoland area, and judging criteria is based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, and degree of difficulty.
“In this home, we took down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, which increased the footprint of the kitchen slightly and allowed for a clear sight line to adjacent rooms,” says Ashley. “We also provided extra storage and seating by extending the kitchen peninsula into the dining room without compromising their dining space.”
This project also had a full bath off of the kitchen that needed to be addressed. “I took into consideration the whole house and how the family utilizes the space. A full bath on the first floor wasn’t necessary and by downsizing it we created space to add an entire wall of pantry storage easily accessible from the kitchen, as well as a much-desired bench and cubbies for dropping coats and shoes as they enter the house. It’s been a real game-changer for this family,” Ashley says.
The results are a clean and updated aesthetic that this family will enjoy for years to come, in a neighborhood they adore.
