Asymmetrical Entertainment Area

When it comes to media stands, one size does not fit all. That’s why most generic pieces tend to miss the mark when it comes to storage, style and quality. The owners of this Chicago condo decided to rid themselves of their run-of-the-mill media stand and relied on Normandy Designer Liz Reifschneider to channel in a new design. Along with other renovations in their home, Liz delivered with an award-winning, asymmetrical media masterpiece.

The media center needed to accommodate a large television, additional tech like a cable box and DVD player and other decorative items. Seeing as the condo was open-concept, the finishes also needed to match the kitchen.

Looking at this new entertainment area, you’ll see combination of walnut wood in contrasting tones. This design decision does double duty – it harmonizes with the kitchen and enhances the asymmetrical design. Paneling makes the piece feel built-in and strategically placed puck lights add ambience for movie nights.

Glass also reinforces the area’s modern aesthetic. You’ll notice it in the shelving and on the bottom cabinets. Glass fronts ensure that remote controls will work properly with their devices.

Now, this family can sit back, relax and enjoy their entertainment area, which received a First Place Remodeling Excellence Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Greater Chicagoland.
