2012 Remodeling Excellence Award

Design Changes That Make A Huge Difference In Small Spaces

In this bathroom remodel, key changes were made to change the appearance and general aesthetic of a smaller sized bathroom.  The existing bathroom had a tired look and dark features that made an already small space look smaller.

“In addition to dark features, the bathroom wasn’t getting any natural light, so the first step we took was deciding on lighter, ivory painted, brown glazed cabinetry to brighten up the space and give it a fresh look,” says Normandy Designer Jennifer Runner, ”To create interest in the space I brought in warm and creative textiles, giving the bathroom a natural, spa-like aesthetic.

Adequate small bathroom storage can be difficult, so I incorporated ample storage with the several drawers and a custom wall cabinet. A unique and coordinating marble shelf was utilized as a place for small toiletries.”  This warm and cozy small bathroom design was just the ticket for the homeowners, and recently won a Remodeling Excellence Award from NARI Chicagoland for its fresh take on a tired space and creative storage solutions.

“If you’re looking to really transform a space, the cabinetry color is going to play a key role, followed by the general aesthetic of the space.  If your current space is warm with earthy hues, changing it to cooler colors such as gray, blue, etc. will set a whole new tone,” commented Jennifer.
