This modern-meets traditional kitchen by Normandy Designer Kathryn O’Donovan transformed the kitchen’s layout in such an impactful way that the project earned a 2025 Master Design Award!

For the new layout of this Long Grove kitchen, Kathryn recommended relocating a bedroom door that was an obstacle to a cleaner overall design. Moving the door around the corner into the nearby hallway allowed for full wall of dramatic arched cabinetry, as well as a more private entry to the bedroom.

The new design features a larger island for more counter and preparation surface, and the decision to keep the sink off-center preserves the direct sight line into the family room, making it easy to keep an eye the grandkids during meal prep and clean-up.

We’re honored that the Master Design Award judges agree that this kitchen functions as beautifully as it looks, and saw fit to acknowledge it with a win. Congratulations to our customers and Kathryn, beautiful work!
