Tuscany Influenced Kitchen Gains Local & National Attention

This homeowner’s painting of a village in Tuscany served as the inspiration for this Deer Park kitchen renovation, created by Normandy Designer Kathryn O’Donovan.  “The client wanted to recreate the warm and lively feeling throughout the kitchen,” commented Kathryn, “To achieve that, we brought in rustic textures and emphasized the natural light in the space.”

The custom built and painted hood is a beautiful focal point for the room, and the tile backsplash features organic colors to complement it.  The Tuscan look was further emphasized with the rustic tile and the painted and glazed cabinets throughout the kitchen.  A contrasting stained cabinet finish and honed granite counter top were also selected to further enhance the Tuscan theme.  “The wall where the sink is located was already being bathed in natural light from the window and skylight,” says Kathryn, “so we wanted to keep that wall light and airy, leading us to select glass door display cabinets and a decorative valance.”

Overall, the colors, textures and rustic accents fully achieved the warmth and the vivacious colors featured in the painting that inspired the kitchen, and the homeowner is delighted with the results of her newly renovated kitchen.

This Deer Park, IL kitchen received a 2012 National Chrysalis Award and a 2011 Remodeling Excellence Award from National Association Remodeling Industry (NARI) Greater Chicagoland.  This is one of two Normandy projects to win a 2012 Chrysalis Award and one of the twelve 2011 Remodeling Excellence Awards received.
